Middle St. Vrain
This was our annual 4th of July run up Middle St. Vrain to Coney Flats for our BBQ party. We had been looking forward to it for awhile, but it looked like the weather wasn't going to be very good. Still, we had a great turnout and a fantastic time in the rain.
We were planning on splitting the group in half on the way up to the "lake" on Coney Flats, so picture taking would be easier. Keith was in the first group and ended up having some engine trouble on the way up, so the second group caught up with the first group in Nederland. He decided to go home, so we said goodbye to Kieth there. We weren't too big for a single group, so we decided to merge into one at that point.
That's when we realized we were short on grills, so the whole group invaded the Ace Hardware in Nederland to buy some grills, charcoal and lighter fluid. Then we were finally off to the trailhead.
Ladd and Perry were meeting us at the trailhead, but we were so late that they decided to go on ahead without us. We got them on the CB and they pulled off to the side of the trail to wait for us.
Keith showed up at the trailhead, hoping that Perry had the Samurai part he needed. He didn't, so Keith went home again.
There was a big group of 10 vehicles from Cheyenne in front of us, and we would end up running the trail with them. We weren't too far into the trail when we caught up with Perry and Ladd, then someone in the group ahead of us broke down.
It was raining just a little off and on, so we enjoyed hanging out and chatting. A few motorbikes and ATVs went around us, making it a busy trail.
We were moving again and then the group ahead of us needed to stop again for additional repairs to the vehicle that broke down earlier. That fix took awhile, and after we got going again there was another delay. When we got to the wide spot after the huge puddle, the group ahead of us was nice enough to let us go around them so we could get up to Coney Flats and our BBQ.
At some point along the trail, Julie tipped her Cherokee into a rock and scraped up both doors on her driver's side. Ouch!
We didn't go to the far end of the trail, choosing instead to make the turn to Coney Flats right away. We didn't take many pictures on the trail, but it was a nice time.
