We had just finished a snowy run on Santa Fe Peak and a discussion about what to run next. We could either stay high in elevation and run Radical Hill, Swan River and S.O.B. Hill or we could stay lower in elevation on the Peru Creek trail system. We figured we'd play it smart and stay out of the bad weather, so we were off to Peru Creek.

We parked just past the trailhead to have lunch. It was sprinkling a little bit, but it soon cleared up and we saw some of the only sunshine we'd see for the rest of the day. It felt very nice. Everyone was chatty and being silly at lunch, which put everyone in an even better mood.

We headed down the trail, still enjoying the sunshine. We hadn't completely finished Warden Gulch on our last trip because of snow, so we did that trail first. Then we headed for the end of Peru Creek.

It was a bummer to see that we could no longer drive past the gate. The few of us who had driven it in the past considered ourselves lucky, and the others could only hear about it. The clouds were rolling in and no one was prepared for a hike in the snow and rain. Unfortunately that meant that we were turning around.

On the way back we ran Cinnamon Gulch and Chihuahua Gulch, and then we aired back up at the trailhead. It was a nice surprise to see that everyone was up for dinner in Keystone, and we had a great time. We had fog and rain on the way back to Denver, which made for a slow trip home. It was a great day, though, and we saw just about every kind of weather imaginable. Only in Colorado!

This day was all about Peru Creek. We aired down at the trailhead before heading up to do Hunkidori Mine, and then we came back to finally do the trail. There were quite a few people on the road, and lots of campers all the way to the end. It…
