Peru Creek
Peru Creek was the second and last trail of the day for us. At the start of Peru Creek, there was a lot of traffic going in both directions.
Peru Creek is mostly a dirt road at the beginning, up to the intersection with Chihuahua Gulch trail. After that intersection, Peru Creek gets a little smaller and dispersed camping is no longer allowed.
Near the end of Peru Creek, we made a right turn to explore around the mining area. There were a blocked off mine shaft and one old building in ruins, and we stopped to take some pictures.
When we tried to drive on after our quick stop, Alan's Jeep did not start. We think he just had vapor locked in his engine. His Jeep is old with a carburetor and not fuel injection. So, after letting the Jeep engine cool off for a short time, his Jeep started up again.
After all that, we went to the lower main mining building. We walked around and took some more pictures. This time, as Matt walked up to his Jeep, he saw a small puddle forming under his Jeep. After looking for the leak for a few minutes, he found that one of the steering assist lines off the gear box was leaking. He tightened the line about 1/16 of a turn, and the leak stopped. It didn't take long to clean up.
After the third Jeep came up with issues since the start of the day, we thought that we should return to the trailhead and air back up before anything else happened. It was a great day of Jeeping up high in the mountains with the weather being very nice, even with Jeep troubles.
