We had a great time at our annual barbeque and we planned on running Switzerland Trail on the way back to town. We accidentally ended up on Pennsylvania Gulch, which was a fantastic surprise.
It had been raining for awhile, making the trail very wet. We headed through the town of Sunset and across to the other side of Switzerland Trail, but made the turn to Pennsylvania Gulch instead. We immediately headed uphill, but it was fun so we continued.
We were all in 2-wheel drive at first, but then we all found ourselves in 4-wheel drive. Soon everyone was in 4-low and wondering where we were. This was a new trail for us and definitely not Switzerland Trail.
The climb was a blast, especially because it was wet. Because of the rain, it made picture taking difficult. The rocks were loose, and the trees hit us from all sides as we all worked our way up to the top.
After that great time on the climb we found ourselves in a tippy section of dirt trail. It was exposed and it leaned us out over the big hill.
We soon ended up on the flat top, surrounded by trees. It was tight as the trees were all around our vehicles as we worked our way out. We found ourselves very near the highway on Sugarloaf Mountain.
Monica lost her Barbie somewhere on that hill, and it was too steep to go back and look for it. She'd have to get another one just like it to finish out the year.
We aired up and talked about how fun it was to find a new challenge in the area. You definitely couldn't run it in the downhill direction because there weren't very many places to pass if you met someone coming uphill. Uphill has the right-of-way, and you'd end up backing up that rocky hill. That could be very difficult!
We all headed for home, soggy from all of the rain. It was a great finish to a great day.
