Spring Creek
We all met at the Starbucks in Downieville, and we aired down there in the parking lot. There was a big group of Jeeps at the Downieville Burger King airing down, too. That big group of ten or so made it to the trailhead of Spring Creek before we were ready to start running the trail, so we would be behind them at the start.
We were soon at the start of Spring Creek, too. All of us went to the first obstacle but Ladd, because he decided to take the bypass instead. There was a traffic jam just before the first obstacle. We watched the other group go up the obstacle, and it looked like it was going to be a lot of fun. There were so many different lines to take -- easy to hard!
Matt and Bob went up the right side of the first obstacle, which is the easy line this year. The rest of the group went up the center of the obstacle. It is a big, uphill slab of rock, and no one one had any issues with it. Katie even got a nice wheel stand going up the challenging rock face.
Then we were at the second obstacle. The obstacle was not hard at all. In fact, it wasn't much of an obstacle anymore. It was just a bit of rough stuff on a steep hillside. We all went right up it with no issues at all. Around the second obstacle was a great view of I-70 and Georgetown.
Then we made our way up all of the switchbacks. Some of the switchbacks were very tight turns. Soon we were at the next traffic jam at the third obstacle. We watched the big group go up and play on the third obstacle for some time.
Soon it was our turn to go up the third obstacle, which was loose rocks and dirt on an incline. We all took different lines going over it, and all of the lines were fun. Katie had the best line with the most flex going up the obstacle. We all had a great time playing.
The last obstacle was the Rock Garden. We had to stop at the bottom of the Rock Garden for the group ahead of us. As the big group moved up, we went up the bypass to stop for lunch and watched the big group go up the Rock Garden. Mark played around at the start of the Rock Garden for a short time before he had lunch. He was having fun making the most of it!
After lunch we made our way up the Rock Garden proper. All of us took the same line at the start of the obstacle. At the top of the Rock Garden, we all took different lines. Nobody had too many issues making their way through the rocks. Katie got stuck for a short time, but made her way out just fine in the end. She did bend the right side of her tie rod, though. It was not bent too much, though, because she still could drive.
Soon we were at the end of the Spring Creek trail. We went to the left to make our way back down. After a short drive, Josh's Jeep stopped running for no apparent reason. We could not get his Jeep started again, so Mark had to tow him down the trail to highway 103. Even with the last issue we all had a great day on Spring Creek. It was a great trail to run.
