Rollins Pass East
We met in Nederland and we weren't there for very long before it started pouring rain. It was pretty chilly and wet, but we had high hopes for better weather as the day progressed. It stopped raining long enough for us to air down off of the Moffat road, but then it started sprinkling again.
While we were airing down, a big group of Jeeps went by us. We caught up with them at the Rollins Pass East trailhead where they were airing down. We figured they'd be behind us all day, but we never saw them again even though they had plans to do the same trails as we did. It was a mystery all day, wondering what happened to them.
We saw plenty of people on the trails, though. We made it through the potholes to the trailhead for Jenny Creek, and we turned off to do that trail. We picked up Rollins Pass East at the end, near Yankee Doodle Lake, and we continued on.
There were lots of people at the lakes and at the top. We stopped for a bit at Jenny Lake to enjoy the view. There were people camping up there, and it must have made for a chilly stay.
Some of us stopped at the parking area near the top while others went on to see the cave in that stopped us from driving any further. Lots of people were parked in both locations. The weather had been unpredictable so we decided to save the hike to the tunnel for another day.
We turned around and headed back down, enjoying the sunshine. It turned out to be a nice trail with nice weather after all. Walt had some CB issues and Ladd had some troubles that made him head for home when we finished this trail. Bob went home, too, so there was a slightly smaller group as we made our way to Mammoth Gulch.
