McClellan Mountain
We got turned around a few times on the way up this trail but we eventually found our way. It's confusing at the start but if you remember not to cross under the powerlines in the beginning you should be okay. All of the dead ends we found were very short so we didn't lose much time.
We were guessing at a lot of the intersections but we were on road 248.1 most of the time so that is probably a good bet. You could see where you needed to be for a long time -- the trick was getting there.
It started to snow just a little bit right before we crossed above timberline. It was chilly at that point but not really cold, which was nice. We had lunch while we still had trees.
The climb up to the top took awhile -- these are the longest roads between switchbacks that I've seen in Colorado. A good portion of the switchbacks were too tight for a Wrangler, too, which was odd. The roads themselves weren't very steep, though.
The wind and snow at the top was crazy! We drove right to the edge, then got out to look around. The wind almost knocked us off our feet it was so strong. It was gorgeous, though.
Then we went down and found one of the many roads leading to Waldorf and the Waldorf Mine. We picked up Argentine Pass from there. It was a good run!
