Flat Iron Mesa
Flat Iron Mesa was the last trail of our week in Moab. There were only two of us still running trails and we both decided to make it the only trail of the day. Austin was already aired down and Terry aired down next to Highway 191. It was a little chilly in the morning with some not-so-friendly clouds, but they soon went away and it reached 93 degrees by the end of the trail.
With only two of us we kept a nice, slow pace. We progressed through Rubble Hill, the red slickrock Dome, and Tilt-A-Whirl. Neither of us had any issues and it was all fun. Once we reached the Hatch Wash Overlook, we decided to stop for lunch.
Just before Easter Egg Hill there was a tippy spot where Terry didn't like his line so he backed up and tried a different one. That proved to be a better line and Easter Egg Hill went rather well. Both Terry and Austin went right down it with no issues at all.
The Squeeze was narrow but we both drove right through it. It's definitely an interesting spot.
After enduring the chill and clouds of the morning and the high temperatures later in the day we decided that we were pretty tired. We also felt fortunate for not sustaining any real damage during the week, unlike quite a few of our Trail Damage buddies. So we called it quits and headed back to town for some refreshments. What a great week of wheeling!
