Fern Creek
After completing Illinois Gulch we were all getting tired. Fern Creek would be the seventh trail of our marathon day of wheeling. It was getting late so we did our best to make good time up the trail. Again, snow cover made the trail interesting where it would otherwise be a simple trail in dry weather.
We were soon off the trail at Rampart Range Road and ready to air up and find a good meal. Unfortunately, we forgot how long and washboarded Rampart Range Road could be. It seemed like it took an eternity to get to the end of the road. We aired up in the dark and were very grateful for pavement as we headed back into town. Since we were all headed north, we ended up eating at the El Meson Mexican restaurant off of Santa Fe in Highlands Ranch. We split up from there with some of us knowing we were going to hit the trails again on Sunday, but this time it would be with the promise of fresh snow on the more difficult trails of Metberry Gulch, Longwater Gulch, and Hackett Gulch.
