Wheeler Lake
It started out to be a very nice, sunny day. We met at the Montgomery Reservoir, and Austin aired down while Matt unloaded his Jeep off of his trailer. Soon we started making our way up to the Magnolia Mill. We stopped and got out to see the waterfall behind the mill.
Then we quickly made it up to Flopper. Matt went up the left side with no issues. Austin went up the right and did a few wheel stands. After a few tries, he succeeded going up the hard side of Flopper.
Next up was the V obstacle. Matt went straight to the V and started his way up. It took a few tries but he made it up the side of the V. Austin went up the V next, he made the V look very easy.
After those obstacles the trail was easy, and we found a few mud holes and some small hill climbs. The view of the valley was great with all the fall colors.
The last obstacle is Bowling Ball Hill. Bowling Ball Hill did not give Matt or Austin any problems. It was just a fun, rocky hill climb up to Wheeler Lake.
It was only around 11:00AM when we got to the lake, so we walked around and had a very long lunch. After lunch we started our way back down to the start of the Wheeler Lake trail. We did not have any issues on the way down.
When we were almost off of the trail, a Jeep driver going up to the lake asked Matt if he was the Matt with the blue Jeep and truck parked at the trailhead. He said that a police officer was looking for him and waiting at his truck. Then, a short time later, a second stranger was asking the same thing. He said that the officer had to go, and he had left a note at Matt's truck near the trailhead. So Matt started to drive faster to get the truck to see what was going on, only to find out that there was an emergency at home.
Matt's son, Connor, had fallen into a pond back at home and was then rushed to the hospital. If you would like to send your wishes or help with medical costs, you can contact us and we'll get you in touch with Matt. Thank you for keeping baby Connor in your thoughts.
