Wheeler Lake
We all met up at the gas station in Fairplay. As we were getting gas we saw that a large group was going to be running the Wheeler Lake trail as well. After getting gas, we went to air down at the trail head for Wheeler Lake.
We started to make our way up to the Magnolia Mill. We walked around the old mill to look at the mill and waterfall which is next to it.
Right after Magnolia Mill was a small hill climb. It was fun -- you could take a few different lines up the small hill. We all had fun going up the obstacle.
Soon after that we got to Flopper, which is the first obstacle. Matt and Niko went up Flopper and had no problem with it, but Niko got a nice wheel stand as he went up the rocks. Carter took the bypass to Flopper.
Next, we arrived at the V. The V is the second obstacle. Matt was the only one to go up the V. The V flexed out his Jeep and he did get one wheel off the ground for a second. Niko and Carter took the bypass to the V.
The rest of the trail to the last obstacle was easy going. The small pond that you go through did not have that much water in it, and you could see all the rocks in the pond.
The last obstacle, Bowling Ball Hill, was fun. There were a few small waterfalls that you could see as you went up Bowling Ball Hill. After a tight turn on the obstacle as you climb up by a waterfall, the trail was washed out some. This was the hardest spot on Bowling Ball Hill, but we all made it.
Soon, we made it to Wheeler Lake. We stopped for lunch and walked around for some time hoping that the large group would make it up past Bowling Ball Hill. That would make it easier to pass them on our way down.
As we started to make our way down Bowling Ball Hill we could see the large group proceeding up Bowling Ball Hill, so we stopped and pulled off to the side of the trail to allow them to pass us.
We ran into a few more small groups on the trail as we went back down to the trailhead.
At the end of the trail, we aired back up. It was a great day for 4-wheeling and the weather was great and cool.
