Switzerland Trail
Switzerland Trail was the first trail of the day. Everybody met in Boulder at a gas station with a Starbucks. Then we made our way to the trailhead where the large parking lot was very full. There were almost no free parking spots. It is also a trailhead for some popular hiking trails, it appeared. After airing down, we started down Switzerland Trail.
The scenery was great. Everything was greening up and blooming, finally! None of us had any issues with Switzerland Trail, because it is an easy trail. There is only one obstacle, a steep hill at the start of the trail on one of the side roads. We all did have fun driving up the small hill.
In the small town of Sunset Matt made a wrong turn, and we all had turn around on a narrow lane and go to the left at the fork up the hill. There was a large sign for "Switzerland Trail" but it really was pointing to both roads.
We kept driving until we got to the Mount Alton Picnic Area, which featured the remains of a cabin that was just a large, stone chimney with a fireplace. We stopped for lunch at the picnic area. It sprinkled some rain, but it wasn't cold, so we had a great time with views down into the valley. A few other people stopped at the picnic area, and after lunch we ran into a few groups on the trails, enjoying the mountains. After lunch it started raining on and off for the rest of the day.
Soon, we came to the end of Switzerland Trail and went to Gold Hill next for the last trail of the day.
