Spring Creek
Spring Creek was the first trail of the day. We met up at the Starbucks in Downieville, and then we aired down right there in the parking lot.
Soon we were at the start of the Spring Creek trail. Matt, Brian, and Alan started to go to the first obstacle, the Wall. Jason preferred taking the bypass for the Wall, so he went around to meet the rest of us at the top of the obstacle.
Matt was first, and he tried the left center and the right side of the Wall. Each time, he almost made it to the top and then stopped and could not go any farther. After some time, he stopped trying and just winched himself to the top.
Brian gave the Wall two tries, and on the second attempt he went right up the Wall on the right side. As for Alan, he went straight for the right side and went up on his first try. It shows that having the bigger Jeep does not help all the time (size doesn’t always matter!).
The second obstacle was not hard at all. It changed, and it was not much of an obstacle anymore compared to previous years.
The switchbacks were still tight and required a few points in a turn to make it through.
Just before making the Left-hand Turn obstacle, we stopped for lunch and a break. After lunch, we all went through the Left-hand Turn obstacle. We all had fun and some of us got a wheel off the ground.
Then we made it to the last obstacle, the Rock Garden. We all took a different line at the start of the Rock Garden, but near the end of the obstacle, we all ended up on the left side of the hill of rocks. It was fun watching each other making their way through the Rock Garden.
At the end of Spring Creek, we stopped for a short break before going to the top of Saxon Mountain.
