We started the day off with the Cripple Creek Ice Festival in Cripple Creek. The theme for this year was Cartoons in Ice. The weather was nice and sunny and it wasn't too cold outside. We walked around the Ice Festival for an hour.

Once we were done checking out the ice sculptures we started down to Shelf Road. We all thought that there would be a lot of snow on Shelf Road this year, but Shelf Road only had snow on some parts of the trail, especially closer to Cripple Creek. Most of the trail was muddy. None of us had any issues on the trail. The trail looked very different this year with snow on the mountains and steep hillsides in the area.

Near the end of Shelf Road on the Canon City side we could see a big group of rock climbers climbing. That was the first time that we've seen rock climbers just off of Shelf Road. It looked like they were having a lot of fun.

Near the end of Shelf Road we stopped for lunch in the parking lot at the being of The Banks camping area. We saw a couple of very big county tractors with snow chains on their wheels. After lunch we were off to Phantom Canyon Road to make our way back to Cripple Creek.

We started on the Shelf Road trail from the south and went north to Cripple Creek. The first part of the trail was paved and then soon it went to a dirt road. We found snow covering everything along the way. Soon after the trail turned to a dirt road…
