Shelf Road
We started out our day in Cripple Creek at the Ice Festival. This year, the Ice Festival's theme was a Military Salute Carved in Ice. They even had a old Jeep carved out of ice. We all had fun walking around the Ice Festival for an hour or so.
Once we were done checking out the ice sculptures we started the trail run. We started Shelf Road from the north end up by Cripple Creek. We expected a lot of snow on Shelf Road, but it was actually pretty dry for the most part. None of us had any issues with the beginning section.
Eventually, we got to the "shelf" part of Shelf Road. Our passengers were all by the wall to one side of the trail while the drivers had to deal with the scary side of the trail with the big drop off. It's intimidating but it wasn't any trouble.
At the end of the Shelf Road trail we stopped in the parking lot at the beginning of The Bank trail and we had lunch there. After lunch we started our way down The Bank just to find out that the gates were closed at the camping area. So we turned around and headed over to Phantom Canyon.
