Shelf Road
Shelf Road was the first trail of the day. We all met up in Cripple Creek. It looked like we were going to have good but cold weather.
The Cripple Creek Ice Festival was canceled this year, so we started the trail soon after we met in town. We all hoped that next year Cripple Creek will have the Ice Festival again.
Most of Shelf Road was free from snow. So, we had just a nice drive down to Cañon City.
The temperature outside in Cripple Creek was around 32 degrees and the temperature in Cañon City was around 4 degrees. So, the air temperature got a lot colder as we drove south towards Cañon City.
None of us had any issues with Shelf Road. It was really cold outside, but warm in the vehicles! We did notice that you could see Window Rock very clearly this year.
We stopped for lunch at the end of Shelf Road, but it was a fast lunch this year as the temperature outside was very cold. Even with the chill, it was a great ride to the end.
