Schubarth Road
Schubarth Road was the second trail on this day, and it was still very cold outside. At least the sun was out, now. We hadn't been on this trail in eight years, so we were looking forward to doing it again.
The start of Schubarth Road is well maintained as it goes through a residential area with signs reading "Stay on the road. Private property ahead." After we passed through an open gate, there was a lot of logging equipment parked on top of a hill. We could see that Schubarth Road had been graded and plowed. It remained that way to the end of Schubarth Road, with a lot of logging just getting started in the area.
With the grading, plowing, and the ongoing logging work, Schubarth Road was easy going and none of us had any issues. We had lunch at the turn-around at the end of Schubarth Road.
After lunch, we took the turn-off on Schubarth Road to run the loop part of the trail. That part was not plowed but did have a few tires tracks in the snow. It was more fun driving in the few inches of snow then on a plowed trail!
Soon, we ran into a group of four-wheel-drives also going down the loop part of the trail. The other group stopped at the split and we passed them before finishing the loop. In this area, we were breaking the trail. Nobody had driven down this trail since the last snow before us.
The last hill climb was fun. It was steep and covered in snow. Tim was the only one who had to make two attempts at the hill. He drove up it smoothly, though, the second time.
After running Schubarth Road, we drove back down Mount Herman Road and went to the small parking lot at the start of Mount Herman Road to air back up.
We had a great, snowy day on the trails!
