Radical Hill
We had just run Swan River up the middle fork, then we headed over to the top of Radical Hill. We planned to run it in the opposite direction and go down it instead of taking the usual uphill trip. We were a little worried about the amount of snow that would be on it as we got there.
The ridge next to the hill had snow blowing off of it, and you could barely stand up if you got out of your vehicle. It was really windy and there was about an inch of snow on the ground. Red Cone looked like it had about the same amount of snow on it, and we were glad we hadn't run it on that day. We saw some Jeeps coming down it, though, and we had just talked to some others who said that they did it and it wasn't bad.
Monica walked out to the edge to make sure no one was coming up, and saw a Jeep almost to the top. When they got to the top they told us that most of it was dry and it wasn't bad at all.
We worked our way down, and it really was fine. There wasn't much snow on it anywhere, and it wasn't wet so it wasn't slick. The dirt was loose near the top, but it didn't make it any worse than it usually is. We had a good time on our way down.
There was a big rock on the trail on one of the switchbacks near the intersection with Webster Pass, and a few of us posed on it for pictures. The scenery around us was absolutely gorgeous. There were snowy mountains, gold aspens, and mountain streams making it just beautiful.
We ran the short part of Webster Pass to get out to Montezuma. No one really felt like splashing through the creek crossing -- we were all cold enough as it was. The mud and water was frozen onto our vehicles, so splashing didn't seem like the best idea.
When we got to the end of Webster Pass, Roger discovered he had a flat tire. He had no idea how or when it happened. He changed it on the road and we were off.
We were going to do Santa Fe Peak and Peru Creek, but it was getting late. We decided to save Santa Fe Peak for another day, so we headed off to Peru Creek.
