Ophir Pass
Ophir Pass was the second trail of the day, and we started on the Telluride end.
Just before the shelf road part of the trail, we ran into a group of motorbikes taking a short break. They informed us that 15 to 20 more motorbikes were going to be coming down the shelf road. At the bottom of the shelf road, we looked up but could not see anyone driving down, so we started making our way up the shelf road. We stopped a few times going up to take some pictures.
Near the top of the pass, we finally ran into the motorbikes and a large group of off-road vehicles. The group of motorbikes were stopped and blocking anyone from going past them down the shelf road. It looked like most of the motorbikes' riders were afraid of going down the shelf road, but they made enough room for us to pass them.
We stopped at the top of the Ophir Pass for some pictures. Soon we started going down the switch backs on the other side of the pass.
Afterwards, we started looking for a lunch spot. We found a short, dead-end trail that stopped near a small creek. As we started to pack up after lunch, a van made its way down to the creek. He had the same idea as we did for lunch.
After lunch, we finished Ophir Pass and went to finish our day with the Clear Lake trail just down the highway.
