Mosquito Pass
Mosquito Pass was the only trail we ran that day. We aired down just off Highway 9. They had some road work going on by the highway and just before Mosquito Pass begins.
At the start of Mosquito Pass, cold clouds started moving in and it was cold outside. We saw a lot of snow left on top of Mosquito Pass on the trail for this time of year.
We stopped near the North London Mine on the trail. The road to the mine is closed with a "No Trespassing" sign. So, we were only able to see the mill from the side of the trail.
As we drove up Mosquito Pass, the trail turned into a moving river. It was pretty fun driving in all that water!
After we made it up the steep, rocky trail-turned-river, we started to run into snow.
Not too far past the mine, the trail was blocked with snow. We spent some time walking around the mine site. We both parked in the snow and sank through the deep snow down to the ground.
Near the North London Mine, we went down the side trail on the right. The side trail went past the old foundation for the South London Mine next to a small lake. The side trail did get very close to the small lake.
After going up a small hill, we came to a "Y" in the trail. Matt took the left fork of the trail that went across a watery area that was very deep. The water went over Matts tire and bumper. Matt turned around at the other side of the water crossing to go back. The water was way too deep for Josh's Jeep, so he skipped it.
Next to the water crossing we stopped for lunch. After lunch, we went to the right of the "Y" which took us back down to the main trail of Mosquito Pass tight in the middle of the water runoff.
We made our way back down to the trail just by the "Y" in Mosquito Pass near the mine and drove down another side trail.
The side trail climbed up for most of the way. We passed a few mine shafts that were visible from the trail. At the end of the side trail, we had a great view of the valley and the top of the mountain. At the end of the trail is an old building's roof sitting on the ground. We did see a cable going straight up the side of the mountain.
After walking around, we made our way back down to the mines and out. We aired back up and started heading back home. It was a great day to be out up in the mountains. We both wished that we could have made it to the other side of Mosquito Pass, but there was just too much snow. Maybe next time.
