We were searching for some good fishing and we really found it at this lake. We ended up with four fish (two of them over 14 inches long), sunburns, and no vehicle damage at all. It ended up being so nice at the lake that we decided not to run any other trails for the rest of the day.

We got a little turned around in Alice (as always) but then we found the road. We ran into a Jeep coming down the trail and the driver said you couldn't get all the way to the lake. We decided to try anyway and we were glad we did. We had two stock Grand Cherokee Limited Jeeps (WJs) and a 2-wheel drive only Dodge Ram and we made it pretty far until we were stopped by snow.

The trail was pretty rocky but nothing the vehicles and drivers couldn't handle. We came to a little snow and went for it, then went just a little further to find our path blocked with a very large snow drift. It was easily four or five feet deep on the trail.

There were other vehicles parked there (it was a larger section of trail) so we parked and walked over the snow drift and to the lake (it wasn't very much further). It was sunny and the lake was gorgeous!

Angela and Monica walked around to the other side of the lake but didn't get any good bites from the fish. Everyone else stayed at the end of the lake nearest to the trail, and Chelle caught two fish. When Monica and Angela got back the clouds were really rolling in and it never warmed up again (it was probably around 50 degrees and very windy). Angela caught a really large fish, then Kevin caught one too.

We stayed to watch some other Jeeps attempt to cross the snow drift and get very stuck instead, then we headed down the trail. Downhill it hardly took any time at all and we were back on Fall River Road. We headed into Idaho Springs and had some Beau Jo's, then we headed home. It was a great trip and one we'll do again after the snow melts!

We’ve always enjoyed Loch Lomond, and we were in the area with time to spare so we headed over to do the trail after Kingston Peak.  Even with the fire ban, the trail was pretty crowded with campers and people enjoying the trail.  We saw lots of cars, too, with…
