Jenny Creek
We did most of Rollins Pass East and started Jenny Creek at the south end. It was nice and cool in the trees, which were very green and close to the trail.
The narrow bridge was in good shape, but it was still very narrow. No one had any issues.
We made it to the creek crossing without seeing anyone else. It was lunch time so we all managed to fit in the turnoff next to the creek for lunch. The creek was beautiful, and everyone had a great time enjoying the scenery. The kids and dog really liked the water, too.
We hadn't explored the right fork at the creek crossing, so we talked about coming back this way to check it out later. Each of us went through the water, and almost everyone posed on the rock in the middle. We were sad to see that the old bridge had finally fallen apart and washed off to the side off the trail. It's interesting to see how the trail changes after every snow.
Everyone had a good time in the rocks on the way out of the creek, taking all different lines. Then we enjoyed ourselves crossing in and out of the creek, then following along the creek. The water was fairly deep, reaching about six inches in places.
The rock obstacle was as fun as ever, and everyone had a good time on it. No one had a problem, though.
There was a small snow drift across the trail when we started getting near the end, but other vehicles had been through it and it wasn't a problem. It's fun to drive through snow, though, no matter how much there is.
Then we got to the last, long hill and found a huge snow drift. No one had been across it -- or if they had, their tracks had been washed away by rain and wind. We decided to winch up it.
Monica went first, winching herself slowly to the top. There was no way she could have gotten up it under her own power. Then she anchored herself to the same tree and turned around to winch some others up.
Dave got winched up next, and he actually managed to get a few feet under his own power once he got close to the top.
Bob S. was next, and he played around by letting his Jeep drive itself, getting out of his Jeep for a second.
Perry came up next, and it was easy work winching the Samurai up the snow drift.
Patrick winched himself up next, letting the winch do the work for him.
Robert tried to get up the hill on his own, but it wasn't happening. Bob S. winched him up.
Walt was next, and Bob S. winched him up. Mike got winched up right after Walt. It started raining at that point, which made the snow even slicker.
Bill got winched next, and his front axle was making a familiar noise. He had broken a u-joint. He made it carefully to the top and off to a flat spot where it could be changed. The guys had him fixed right away.
Ed tried to get up the snow without winching, but it wasn't going to happen so he winched himself up.
Ed winched Daniel up, and managed to break both of his winch guides off in the process. Daniel made it up just fine, though.
Bob R. winched himself up last, not having any issues.
After we were all up, we discussed trying the route to the right that used to be blocked with cement barriers. Some motorcycle riders came off of it and said they had come all the way from Winter Park. We weren't sure if it was legal, though, so we decided to try it again another day.
We headed off to to up to Needle's Eye Tunnel on Rollins Pass, but found a big snow drift that turned some of us away. It was a great day in the creek!
