We ran Imogene Pass right after finishing Black Bear Pass. The trailhead is a little difficult to find because it's basically the end of a city street. It's at the intersection of Oak and Tomboy Road (the trail is what Tomboy Road turns into at some point).

We found the trail and started up surrounded by green aspen trees and sunshine. It promised to be a great trip. The views of Black Bear Pass were amazing and we all snapped some pictures.

On the shelf road to the Tomboy townsite we were behind a Jeep from out of state (Minnesota). They were obviously thrilled to see so many Jeeps and were filming us and taking pictures for a long time. It's hard to imagine not having the opportunity to go wheeling every weekend!

When we got to Tomboy it was lunch time so we stopped there for awhile to eat and explore. There were lots of SUVs that probably hadn't been on a dirt road before and lots of dirt bikes and ATVs around. It was pretty busy but it was a big area so it wasn't too crowded.

We got going again fairly quickly and started up the pass. There were a couple rock hill obstacles that were optional and pretty fun, so we had a good time on the way to the top. We ran across another group coming down but with all of the connecting trails they just took another one on the way down and missed us completely.

When we got to the top it was raining and cold (44 degrees). A few of us went up to the overlook to check out the views while the rest of us when down a little bit to the first flat spot. It was a little slippery when it was wet.

We worked our way down the trail and found it to be pretty long. There were a few places where we crossed the stream and ran through big puddles so we had a good time splashing.

We explored one spur and found a waterfall way back in the trees. Jon ran across it and up it a ways but the rocks were very slippery. We hung out and relaxed, then backtracked to get going again.

When we got to the intersection of road 361 there was a big stream crossing so almost everyone splashed their way through.

We continued on to Yankee Boy Basin right after Imogene Pass. This trail was really cool and very high in elevation, making it an instant favorite.

You can’t do Black Bear Pass without completing the loop with Imogene Pass, and that’s exactly what we did. It was easy to find the trailhead with a GPS, which was a nice change from the last time when we didn’t have auto-routing. We even enjoyed our drive through Telluride,…
