The day started out early for us when we met on the road to Holy Cross. We all aired down and unloaded one Jeep off of a trailer for a fun, full day on one of Colorado's most famous and popular trails. The weather looked like it was going to make it a great day.

The one-way part of Holy Cross gave us a pleasant start. It was a nice drive, and did not take us too long to get to the notch. The notch/slab was fun, and almost everyone made it up and over the rock without any issues. Matt started going up the center of it and then slid all the way to the left side of the obstacle. He had to use his winch to get up the slab of rock. After that, Bob and Frank went far to the right side and made it up with no problems.

The steep rock climb before French Creek was fun, like always. We all made it up the rock chunks without any issues. At this point, the clouds started moving in and replacing the blue skies.

The next obstacle was French Creek. When we got there, two other Jeeps had just made their way across the rocks. So, we got lucky and we did not have to wait at all before we were able to start crossing it ourselves. Matt went to the left side of French Creek and made it out of the mess with only a few tries.

Next, it was Bob's turn in the creek. Bob spent some time trying a few different lines, but he was not having any luck. Then, he got himself stuck where he could not move at all. So, Matt turned around and helped Bob out with the winch.

Frank brought up the tail of our little group. He went to the right side of French Creek and made his way out of the rocks. The right side looked easy for the long Jeep, though Bob and Matt would probably have a tough time there with their shorter wheelbases.

Soon, we were at the tippy tree and the hill climb. It seemed chunkier and rougher than in years past. Matt went up the left side had to give his Jeep some gas to get up the hill next to the tippy tree. Frank went up the center line, and Bob didn't have any issues, either. It's always a relief to make it through this section.

We stopped by Holy Cross City to have lunch, and that is when it started raining. It made us cut our lunch a bit short, but it was still really nice there.

After lunch, we went to watch the two bigger Jeeps we had seen at French Creek earlier as they climbed up Cleveland Rock. It was fun watching them work at it and then pop up and over the huge obstacle. No one in our group was up for Cleveland Rock during this trip.

Eventually, we turned around and started making our way back to the start of Holy Cross. The trail really went by quickly on the way out. We only ran into a few groups of people on their way up Holy Cross. We made it back home before the sun went down, and it was a great day on the trail.

It’s not really possible to have a bad day on Holy Cross, but this trip was one of the best ones we’ve had. The weather was sunny and beautiful, and the aspen trees were yellow, their leaves coating the trail in many places. We shared the trail with only a…
