Gould Mountain
It was our last day of exploring trails in and around the Medicine Bow Mountains and we planned on checking out as many trails in the State Forest State Park that we could. We packed up and met in Walden and then headed down to the trailhead.
We paid our fees to get in and filled out our stickers for the day. There was no one at the entrance station. We wanted to check out Gould Mountain first so we headed there.
The trailhead was easy to find and we started right up. On our way up the mountain we did the rightmost spur first and then came down the leftmost spur. Then we went back up the shorter spur to the top of the hill. It was a little loopy but we saw everything, at least.
When we got up near the top of Gould Mountain the views were incredible so we stopped for a bit. The sun was out and the weather was perfect. It definitely makes us all want to stop and chat. But eventually we got back in our vehicles and headed out.
We soon were working our way down the switchbacks. We passed someone walking a bicycle to the top. That looked like a lot of work! But it would be a nice ride on the way down.
Once we hit the intersection with Grass Creek and started heading back it was a quick drive. The trail was easy and well maintained. We went by the reservoir and there were lots of people camping in RVs but it looked like people were packing up. It was Sunday, after all.
Once we got back to the trailhead we backtracked a little to get to Bull Mountain. Gould Mountain was a nice trail so we had high hopes for the day.
