We ran this trail after completing China Wall, so we were running Goose Creek Road from the southwest to the northeast. Ryan talked with Brian and found out that he was waiting for us at the south end of Goose Creek Road at Park County Road 77. Brian had gotten a late start and had actually driven down Goose Creek Road to meet up with us.

We all stopped to welcome Brian, and then we all quickly set off up the trail. The sky was overcast and the snow was beginning to fall in earnest. The trail was easy and we made good time, stopping for a few quick looks at the Hayman Fire area. We couldn't see Pikes Peak, though, and that was disappointing.

We took a short side trip up forest service road 558 but it dead-ended at a hiking and horseback trailhead. After rejoining Goose Creek Road, we kept making good time although the trail was beginning to get a little slick with the snow.

Soon we came to the turn for Cheesman Reservoir and we took the short side trip to see it. After that, it was a short run down to the highway to pavement and the Wigwam Campground parking area where we aired up and split up. Some of the group went north to Pine Junction, some went south to Colorado Springs, and still others went east to Sedalia. The three of us that went to Sedalia ending up having cheeseburgers at Bud's Bar before heading for home. It was a great day!

Goose Creek Road was the first trail run of the new year.  Roger sponsored two new members, Sarah and Kathie, and we had a big group for a January run.  Sarah bought Walt’s Jeep TJ, and Walt bought a new Rubicon.  It looked like it was going to be a…
