Golden Spike
Golden Spike was the second trail we ran on our Trifecta Day. Going up and down all the fins at the start of Golden Spike was a lot of fun. Soon enough, we reached the Launch Pad, a fun slickrock obstacle. None of us had any issues with the Launch Pad.
Matt, Brian and Alan drove to the top of Skyline Drive. When Brian was about to start down Skyline Drive, a motor bike just drove up the same line that Brian was going to take down. Julie tried to stop the motorcyclist from going up, but the driver didn't listen to her. Luckily, they managed to stay out of each other's way.
After the Skyline Drive obstacle, we went to the small cave near Where Eagles Dare trail. We had lunch in the cave because it was so hot in the sun, and the cave provided shade and cooler temperatures.
After we continued, we stopped again at an overlook on the way to the Golden Crack obstacle. There was a group of side-by-sides leaving as we pulled up to the overlook.
At the Golden Crack, we all had fun going through the crack and flexing our Jeeps' suspensions. Julie's rear bumper caught the side of the crack and bent her bumper up and backwards. This was the only trail damage for this trip to Moab – we got off easy!
None of us tried Double Whammy this time, as we were all ready to finish the trail. At Body Snatcher, we all took the bypass. We stacked a few rocks for Julie to get up and over the ledge at the bypass.
Once we got to the top, we turned to head down to the last trail, Gold Bar Rim. A few of us walked the short distance to the overlook before heading down to the last trail.
