Gold Bar Rim
With Golden Spike and the Golden Crack behind us, we were ready to complete the "Trifecta" with Gold Bar Rim. After a little confusion over where we actually finished Golden Spike and started Gold Bar Rim, we were on our way. We worked our way down the trail, around a small canyon, and up onto some slick rock. There were a couple well-built Jeeps from the Carolinas parked there and one had his hood up. After asking if they needed help (they didn't) we pressed on. These would be the only two 4x4 vehicles we were to see all day until we got back out to Route 191. It was beginning to seem strange that we could run the most popular trails in Moab and see so few others on the trails!
We paused for poser pictures at Mushroom Rock, enjoyed the scenery, and then moved on. From there on out we rarely stopped, even though there were many challenging ledges and rocks. The trail seemed anti-climatic after Poison Spider and Golden Spike, although Gold Bar Rim is worthy of spending much more time on.
We ended up at Route 191, aired up, and headed into Moab grinning from ear to ear, looking forward to the hot tub, a good single malt scotch, and a cigar to celebrate! We had memories to discuss and we were looking forward to Cliff Hanger, Hell's Revenge, and Behind the Rocks. What could be better?
