There were only a few of us at the lake this time, but we had a pretty good showing. The sun was out and technically it was about 40 degrees, but the wind was fierce and we would get pelted with ice every once in awhile. Still, it was a great day for Ice Racing.

Everything got an extremely late start, largely because of the wind. They had the Street Stock track all set up, then the cones blew across the lake in a major gust of wind. People chased them across the ice but they still lost about five cones over the spillway and even found a couple in the trees.

There was also a Land Rover group that was supposed to run before us, but it became obvious that they weren't giving up the track anytime soon so they changed plans and moved us to another track. It worked out well (even though we started over two hours late) because the Land Rover group ended up on clear, slick ice while we ended up on a dog bone track with a bit of snow and grooves from tires. Still, it was a very slick track!

The worst part was that we did not get to practice. The day just didn't go very well for the organizers. That meant the first time Sean was on the ice was to be an actual race. Bob had raced before but this time he was racing in Monica's Grand Cherokee for a change of pace.

Monica and Julie raced first and it took Monica a good chunk of the track to figure out the ice (one practice run really helps, it turns out). Julie raced really well (as always) and ended up coming in third.

Ladd raced in the first race for the Men's Street Stock and ended up going up against the winner from last weekend. Ladd did some great racing, but it's tough to beat a seasoned professional. Bob had a very impressive race considering he hadn't driven that Jeep before, but it wasn't enough to win. Sean ended up hitting a cone and got disqualified, but he still did a great job on the ice (watch out for Sean next time!).

It was over pretty quickly and though it wasn't the best time we've ha
d at the Ice Races we still had a good time, hitting Beau Jo's on the way home.

The second and last Fun Day at the Ice Races is always a fun one. This time we had four tracks open (probably the most we’ve ever seen) and not too many vehicles, so there was rarely a wait to race. The sun was shining and there was very little…
