Georgetown Ice Races
This race day featured the usual Men's and Women's Bare Rubber races, along with the "Go For The Bronze" Bare Rubber race where the men and women race each other. We also saw a large group of Infinities in a race of their own. The weather was fantastic and we all did well on the ice with a few inches of snow on top.
The "Go For The Bronze" race was in the early afternoon and Monica and Bob both decided to skip it and just race the usual races. It turned out that we stayed anyway so Bob managed to get in at the last minute (Monica worked the race instead).
First was the Women's Bare Rubber race, where Julie came in 2nd and Monica came in 5th. Bob raced in the Men's Bare Rubber race but was knocked out early.
We watched the Infinities practice, then headed over to the oval track for the "Go For The Bronze" race. No one was allowed to practice first. It was a much faster track than the dog bone track we were used to.
Bob had a fantastic race but he started too early and was disqualified -- though he actually finished ahead of his opponent by quite a distance. Julie kept winning because she was the only one to really get the corners right. Then when she raced for 1st place she didn't pull it off and came out of it with an impressive 2nd place (and no 3-foot trophy).
We ate in Georgetown this time at the Red Ram and it was good. The snow really started coming down as we left, so we got on I-70 with everyone else coming down from skiing (slow traffic). It was a great time, as usual!
