We had a "classic Moab" trip planned for the fall, when we'd do a few of the most popular trails in the area.  We usually try to do more new trails and explore new areas, but sometimes we just need some slickrock.  The Fins & Things trail has the best slickrock, so that was our first destination.

It was Niko's first time wheeling in Moab so we had to start with Baby Lion's Back.  We stopped there to air down and make sure things wouldn't fall out of Jeeps on steep hills, and then we went around a few times.  There was a pretty big puddle on the other side, keeping things interesting.

Roger needed the morning to get his Jeep running well, and we came out of Baby Lion's Back to find him driving by on Sand Flats Road looking for us.  Handy!  He aired down and we did the little trial obstacle one more time.  Then it was time to start the trail, so much easier to find than it used to be.

We were all grinning from the start, enjoying the slickrock.  We stopped and had some fun on the Play Hills, enjoying watching some people new to a side-by-side tackle their first big hills.  Mike and Matt both tried the steep hill near the end, but neither one had any luck with it.  Instead, everyone went up the part of the hill right next to it that isn't as steep but is still a great time.

When we got to the steep section, we discovered that only short wheelbases had enough room on the hill to slide in the sand.  The longer Jeeps were already down by the time all four tires were on the sandy slope.  It's still fun, even if you don't slide.

We got to the Wall and everyone went up it, of course.  Niko had a fun time figuring out how sticky slickrock is and what his Jeep can do.  That obstacle is always a great time.  Then we were popping up the hill and back to Sand Flats Road, where we turned right to do the other half.

The second half started out with the fun slickrock descent, and then we were off in the sand.  We skipped the Morning Glory Arch and headed off to the fun stuff.  When we got to the fins at the far end, we were excited to finally be at Kenny's Climb.  No one took the easy way around it, and no one had any issues on the hill.

As always, coming around the corner to Frenchy's Fin is crazy.  It seems too steep to drive up, but then you just go right up without issues.  We stopped at the top to enjoy the view and laugh about how fun that obstacle is.

The rest of the trail was uneventful, but scenic.  It wasn't long before we were off the trail and headed over to Hell's Revenge.

Fins & Things was our first trail of our week in Moab. We got to the trail around 3:00 on Tuesday after driving from Colorado. It was nice and sunny out, and it was not too hot for Moab. We aired down in a small parking lot just before the…
