Elephant Hill
Elephant Hill was the first trail we ran for the fall Moab trip. It was a long drive to get to Elephant Hill, but it’s well worth the drive.
We aired down in the parking lot next to the trailhead. The parking lot was very full of cars with people out to hike the area.
It was a very nice day with a lot of sun but not too hot. We went up Elephant Hill with no issues, but we got right to the more tricky driving! Most of us did the pull in and back down the trail in the one tight spot after the switchback on the way down.
Soon, we were on the one-way part of Elephant Hill. It had a few fun spots with some rock crawling. The narrow passage was very tight with the JK Jeeps, but we all made it with no issues or scraping on the sides of the skinny trail.
We continued making our way down to Chesler Park. We had lunch at one of the tables that was in the shade, and Matt was very proud that he had conjured the table for us! After lunch, a few us hiked down Joint Trail to the caves.
After the hike, we started back down the two-way part of Elephant Hill to Silver Stairs. We saw one other Jeep driving down Silver Stairs, but otherwise we had it to ourselves. We didn’t have any problems with the obstacle.
After Silver Stairs, we drove to the Colorado and Green River overlook. It was a short hike to look down from the top of the cliffs to where the two rivers merge.
After the overlook, we returned to Elephant Hill and drove over the hill in the opposite direction to the big parking lot.
On the way back to Moab we found a stalled car on the side of the highway. We stopped to help and the car wouldn't start, so Niko towed the car to Moab where we hope he was able to get repairs. It was a great first day!
