Deer Creek
We finished Radical Hill and it was time to relax (relatively), so we turned onto Deer Creek to head down into Montezuma and the pavement. The sun was setting, and the views were dramatic as we crossed the top of the mountain. The best views are probably at the top, before you head into the trees.
Even though we were on a shelf road, it wasn't very intimidating after doing Radical Hill and Red Cone. We enjoyed the quiet, and soon we could smell a campfire. The weather was chilly, but it wasn't windy. We all wished we were camping that weekend, but no one was.
Soon we were down into the trees, and we found campers here and there. There are some great spots at the higher elevations, but it was fairly crowded the closer we got to Montezuma. Still, every campsite was gorgeous.
We came up to a few people on their way up, but it didn't take us long to get to the bottom of the trail. We stopped at the wide area there to air up and wrap up the day. A few of us headed into town for some Mexican food on the patio at Dos Locos, and then we all headed back down into the city. It was a great day!
