Chinns Lake
We'd seen a lot of rain in Denver over the past few weeks, so we expected rain in the mountains. We were also expecting lots of green meadows and colorful flowers, and we got that, too. We met in Idaho Springs and headed for Chinns Lake, a short and quick trip. There was a wedding happening on a spur just past the start of the trail, but we didn't actually see any people or vehicles, only signs pointing the way.
There were a lot of people out, and we drove by many campsites with people just waking up. Whole campsites were covered in tarps and everyone looked cold and soggy. We were happy to have slept in warm beds at home the night before.
When we got to the intersection there was a vehicle stopped and blocking the way up to Chinns Lake so we went to Fall River Reservoir first. There were many, many people around the reservoir. We didn't stop and walk to the reservoir, so we circled around the parking area and headed back down to the intersection.
Once we got there we headed up to Chinns Lake. There were lots of people camping once we got to the lake, but the farther in we went we saw fewer and fewer people. By the time we got to the end after driving between the lakes we had the place to ourselves.
We lucked out, and the weather was perfect. The sun was out, and sunshine was sparkling on the water. We hung out for a bit just enjoying the morning scenery. The rain we've been having was a drag in town, but it really made the mountains even more beautiful than usual.
After getting our fill we headed back down and out to go to Loch Lomond. It was a great start to the day.
