This was our second trail of the day. We ran Silver Gulch first, which has its trailhead just off of the Bard Creek trail. We picked Mark up at the Silver Gulch trailhead and he joined us for the rest of Bard Creek.

We came to a small hill just a bit past the start of Silver Gulch trail. Just like the first hill on Silver Gulch, it had ice on it. Matt was leading and in two-wheel drive so he only made it halfway up the hill. He was on his way up but then he started sliding back down the hill, all the way to just about the very bottom. Walt was behind Matt in the line up, and he had to back up quickly to avoid getting hit by Matt's Jeep as Matt slid down. Then, Matt went into four-wheel drive and went right up the hill. No one had any trouble with the hill in four-wheel drive.

The rest of the trail was fine with just some snow in spots on the trail. There are some mines on the side of the trail but we didn't do much exploring. Soon we were at the end of the trail. We stopped at the top of a hill for lunch, enjoying the view. Then we made our way back down to do the last trail of the day, Bill Moore Lake.

Report from a Different Day

August 13, 2011

Led by Monica I.
Our plan was to wander around the trails near Empire and Bard Creek would be the start. We aired down at a parking area very close to town and the weather looked like it was going to be perfect. We didn’t even see any other traffic on its way up….
