Phantom Canyon
Phantom Canyon was the last trail of the day. The sun was still out, and down near Cañon City the temperature was around 70 degrees. Colorado was having a weird, February day and we loved it.
Phantom Canyon started out nice and dry but would get snow packed and icy as we got closer to the town of Victor.
Just as Phantom Canyon started to get icy, there was a truck that had to pass all of us at high speed. We all thought that we would eventually find the truck off to the side of the road, stuck. But we did not see the truck again.
Most of the Phantom Canyon trail went fine with no issues.
At the last long hill climb we ran into a truck with a trailer going down the trail. The hill was snow packed and icy, and while it was a bit tight passing by our large group, the truck did make it past everyone with no real issues.
At the end of Phantom Canyon, we all went to Victor to stop at the bakery. After that, some of us went to go and see the Victor Troll that had been built in 2023, Rita the Rock Planter. The short drive up to the parking lot was very muddy, and the foot trail down to see Rita was very icy this time of the year. We were really happy we took the side trip. It was a great day to be up in the mountains in the winter.
