Metal Masher
The weather forecast for the day was great and we met and aired down at the parking area just off the main Highway 191. The sun was out and we were warm but not too hot.
The start of Metal Masher was easy going with some sand. The first ledges are always the most fun, practice for the trail to come.
Soon, we made it to Sand Ledge. We watched a black JKU going up the sandy ledge. It took him a few tries to make it up the optional obstacle. Then it was time for all us to go. We all made it up the ledge, but we all went to the right just a little and went up without any issues.
Then next up was Tailpipe Hill. Matt went up Tailpipe hill with no problems. Niko almost made it up, but his spare tire was hitting the ground, so he backed off before causing damage to his spare tire carrier. Julie almost made it to the top of Tailpipe Hill as well, but then she was starting to get sideways so we winched her the rest of the way up the hill. Then a few rock buggies showed up and they all went right up Tailpipe Hill like it was just a bump in the road.
When we got to Rock Chucker, we had lunch and sat back to watch the rock buggies play on the obstacle. We did see a few of them make it to the top of Rock Chucker. None of us tried to go up Rock Chucker, though.
After lunch, we all headed up to Mirror Gulch. Matt was the first to go up and in the center where the rock ledge is, he was spinning his tires some and Monica told him to stop playing around. There was long line waiting their turn for this obstacle. So, he gave it some gas and went right up. Everyone else made it without too many problems, but everyone did spin their tires some.
The Climb Challenge was not too bad. We waited for rock buggies and side-by-sides to pass us before going up. We all went to the far left side with the sharp right turn at the top. We all made it with no issues.
Then we stopped at the overlook for a short break and to take some pictures from the overlook.
Afterwards, we made it to Widowmaker. We walked around for some time and did watch one of the rock buggies go up the steep, slippery hill of slickrock. After some time, Matt and Niko went to give it a go. Matt went up first because there was a winch point to tie off on. After Matt, Niko went up too, and that’s where they met up with Carter at the top of Widowmaker. Carter took the bypass. Julie joined them again at the intersection for Widowmaker after she took the bypass, too.
We stopped in the Mother-In-Law Hill play area for Metal Masher for a short time. After playing around, we made it to the end of Metal Masher. We went back out and on Highway 313. We all had a great time at Metal Masher.
