Bull Mountain
We made some sense of the maze of trails in State Forest State Park, jumping from one to the next since the morning. Our last trail was Bull Mountain, and it wasn't even early evening yet. But it was way too gorgeous at our campground.
We'd done Bull Mountain before, and we had combined it with Kiwi Road last time. This time, we did it straight through from the west to the east. We hung out at the North Michigan Reservoir for a bit before going to the trailhead. We skirted along the edge of the park boundary and then followed the trail in.
The sun was so bright in a clear sky, and everything green practically sparkled. The aspen trees made whispering sounds in the gentle breeze, and it was relaxing and beautiful. We stopped for a bit at the gate at the end of the Custer Draw hiking trail to stretch our legs and enjoy the day.
When we got to the intersection, we actually took Kiwi Road out as we'd done the last, tiny bit of Bull Mountain earlier in the day. That meant we went back out to the Bull Mountain trailhead before getting onto Highway 14. We weren't far from our campground at Ranger Lakes, so we didn't air up.
We stopped at the Cabins Gift Shops just for snacks and things. It was a really cool store with some interesting, friendly owners. They have a little bit of everything, and we bought a little bit of everything. It was a nice stop.
We also stopped at the Moose Visitor Center, happy we were there before it closed. We got a lot of information from the people working there, and bought some more stuff. It's a State Forest State Park state of mind.
Dinner at the campground wasn't quite what we thought. We snacked too much and ruined our appetites. Still, hanging out at the campfire and trading stories is what it's all about. It was a great first day!
