Black Dragon
Monica's Jeep was in the shop, so she was riding with Mike and taking photos. She needed some time in the morning to get it towed from its resting place on an onramp to I-70, dead and missing a serpentine belt. Once it was safely in the shop, we headed out to the trailhead for Black Dragon. After airing down, we were on our way.
It never takes long to get to the petroglyphs, and we were amazed (again!) at how wonderfully cool and shady it is there. It was in a wash, so it probably wasn't a safe place for the natives to stay back when they made the rock art, but it was a nice place to visit. We hung out for a long time before deciding to get back out into what promised to be a hot day.
The blue sky and bright sun made the scenery absolutely amazing. The red and white walls were distracting as we worked our way through Black Canyon. But then we popped out above it and we could see I-70 near us, namely a rest area. We hoped other people were watching us and wondering how Jeeps got all the way out there.
Like the time before, we looked for a shady spot for lunch but didn't find anything until we got to the scenic area where we had lunch the time before. We huddled in the small amount of shade and had an awesome lunch just checking things out.
We did the new trail of Swazey's Leap before heading all the way back out to the pavement. "Back in the day" we would have done another trail, but we decided to get back early to hang out and enjoy the evening. Most of us were staying in the Green River KOA which shares a driveway with the Tamerisk Restaurant. They have amazing food, so we had dinner there (like we did other nights). It was a great day out in the sunshine.
