West Magnolia
Every once in a while we have "one of those days" where it seems like nothing goes as planned. A few of us camped at the Kelly Dahl campground, and then we all met in Nederland. We started out with five Jeeps and ended up with only three as two were taken out early on.
We were airing down there when Holly discovered that she had a crack in the sidewall of one of her tires. She changed it, but she still wasn't sure she'd be able to do the trail. She had three puppies with her, and she wasn't sure they'd be up for offroading. After a lot of drooling and vomit, she realized they weren't quite ready so she headed out soon after starting the trail.
Chuck was also with us in a new, stock JK. We were near the start of the trail when a branch jammed itself into an oil line and he started smoking. We cleaned things up and then headed down to Rollinsville to drop him off. That left Monica, Tom, and Niko to do the trail.
We decided to do the little spur and found a fun hill and a section with very tight trees. It was an adventure, and it gave Niko his first scrapes along a fender flare.
We checked out the mine, and then went off to check out the mill. The hike was short and in the shade, which was nice. It's a pretty cool area, and we took lots of photos.
We stopped at the air-up spot near the end of the trail, and then decided to head into Rollinsville for some snacks at the Stage Stop. Even though the day had a really rough start we finished in style. It was a good day.
