Matt K.
White 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

Matt waited at the gas station meeting place for 20 minutes, but nobody else showed up for the trail run. Matt knew that Slaughterhouse Gulch is not a hard trail to run, so he decided to go on his own. It looked like it was going to be a very nice day to see all the fall colors.

Matt did not see too many people on the trail until later in the day. He ran into a few groups of Jeeps going the other direction.

The first part of the trail was very pretty and bright with fall colors. Before the "Y" in Slaughterhouse Gulch, Matt saw few groups of people camping.

Most of the Slaughterhouse Gulch trail was easy going. Soon Matt made it to the area that was washed out. The Forest Service moved the trail up higher on the wash out area by about 10 to 15 feet or so. The Forest Service did lay down trees and big branches in the wash out area. It was very easy to tell which way to go.

After this, Matt soon got to the bottom of Slaughterhouse Gulch. Driving through all the dried-up mud holes was fun.

The hill climb was fun, and Matt took the far-right line most of the way up to the top of the hill. A few spots were very flexy but not too hard -- just fun.

The rest of the trail was very scenic with some more fall colors.

It didn’t take long before Matt made it back to the start of Slaughterhouse Gulch after a great few hours of trail driving.

Led by Monica I.
We found snow and very chilly temperatures on Geneva Creek, so we headed over to Slaughterhouse Gulch to stay lower in elevation. That would increase our chances of better weather. We picked the right trail and had fantastic weather for the rest of the day, with almost all of the…
