We ran down Saxon Mountain after doing Spring Creek. We usually go the other direction to go down Ute Creek and Lamartine, but we thought we'd try a different way.

It was definitely bumpier than the other direction down to Idaho Springs, but the road was wide and there wasn't any traffic. We were about halfway down when Robert realized he left his tow strap up on the Rock Garden on Spring Creek, so Bob and Ladd went back to see if they could find it.

We continued on, agreeing to meet them at the bottom. The switchbacks were pretty cool, and you could see far below you to the town and I-70. The trail could be pretty scary if it was snowy or icy.

We aired up in the big area next to the water, and it wasn't long before Bob and Ladd were on the CB. If it's not nailed down it doesn't last long on Spring Creek, and Robert's tow strap was gone already. That's the unfortunate thing about trails near to Denver like that one -- it attracts a lot of the riffraff. Bob and Ladd were just going to meet us at dinner, so we could get there and get a table.

We finished airing up and went down to Beau Jo's for pizza and stories. Because Saxon Mountain is bumpier and you end up further west on I-70, we'll probably continue to take Ute and Lamartine back down from Spring Creek in the future.

There were only two of us on Spring Creek and we didn’t end up behind anyone, so it was only noon when we came off of South Spring Gulch and onto Saxon Mountain. We’d had a late snow this year, so we weren’t sure if we could get to the…
