Most of us did Russell Gulch as a side trip on our way down Oh-My-God Road. We didn't take too long exploring, but it was long enough to really enjoy the gorgeous scenery that the trail has to offer.

We started on the Central City end, going directly to the trails. We took the switchbacks up to Frontenac Mine and everyone parked to check it out. The mine was a little more run down this year, it seemed. Michael had fun exploring it.

The best part of the mine was the view from the area. There was still a lot of snow on the mountains around us, and the area was very green. We hung out, just enjoying ourselves.

On our way out, we found an especially fun mud puddle. Almost everyone splashed through it, getting their vehicles all muddy. Bob and Mike did the smart thing and crawled through it, because they were there without complete tops and doors. They would definitely have been all muddy if they had splashed. Walt wanted to splash, but he ended up with not enough room.

We took some pictures of the mines on the way out, then backtracked a little bit to drive through the actual town of Russell Gulch. It wasn't as colorful in the rainy conditions, but it was still a really nice town full of photo opportunities.

After we went through Russell Gulch we headed down Oh-My-God Road to Idaho Springs. It was a great day!

We finished our day with an extensive exploration of the system of trails south of Russell Gulch and east of Oh-My-God Road. We spent a lot of time and saw a lot of dead ends, but there was still more to explore as we headed back. We got a fairly…
