Red Elephant Hill
Just when you think the trail is a nice, mellow ride something bad happens. It happened when Monica and Ed both got their passenger sides off the side of the trail at the same time, at two different rock obstacles. The dirt is very soft at the edges of this trail!
The trail climbs and climbs and sometimes you have to go around rocks or place your tires in such a way that you get really close to the edge. That happened to both Ed and Monica. Straddling the soft edge of the trail and at a massive tilt neither one of them could get back on the trail without a little help from the rest of the crew. Tow straps, winches and snatch blocks saved the day, as well as friends standing on the high edge of the vehicle.
After that stressful event was over everyone else knew the correct line to take and though there were some issues here and there everyone else made it through without falling off the trail. We found some good rocks to hop over and tough challenges with the soft dirt under our tires. We also managed to only make one wrong turn at the very end but we all backtracked to find the trail again.
The trail ends right before the hill on Bill Moore Lake where the fun begins, so you don't miss any of the obstacles on that trail by taking Red Elephant Hill. We went back down by taking the Bill Moore side so we got to see everything too. This is a great way to do Bill Moore Lake.
