Poison Spider Mesa
We started the day with awesome weather and it stayed nice all day. We weren't really hurrying but we still made good time on our way to Golden Spike and Gold Bar Rim to do the Trifecta.
Like always, we stopped on Potash Road to check out the petroglyphs on the rock wall. Robert told us that this was called "Wall Street" by the climbers. We didn't see any climbers out yet that morning.
When we got to the trailhead no one was interested in seeing the dinosaur footprints and we didn't even sign the guestbook before we headed off down the trail. We weren't too far into it when we stopped to put on sunscreen.
No one had any troubles with the early trail rocks at all. Even the Waterfall was a piece of cake for everyone, and each vehicle went up the steep part of the slickrock after the main Waterfall. It's always at this hill that you can grin and realize it's going to be a great day.
Everyone went through the Wedgy, though people took many different lines. Monica went through tipped at an angle, and Tom ended up with his driver side tires in the Wedgy, giving him a dramatic wheel stand.
There was a new grave marker at the little girl's grave site this time, which made it a lot easier to spot from the road. Most of us put a coin on the grave for good luck.
We kept going and almost everyone took a turn around the Sand Bowl. Sean scooped up a ton of sand in his skid plate and dropped lines of sand on all steep obstacles for the rest of this trail and the others. He even dropped lines of sand on Slide Rock all the way out on Gold Bar Rim.
We were at the crossroads for Golden Spike at about 10:30 so we were way ahead of schedule. This meant we'd be in the Golden Crack before sundown if all went well!
This is always such a great trail and it's a bummer when we can't finish the whole thing all the way out to Little Arch. Maybe next time.
