Pierson Park North
We did Pole Hill first, and then drove the short distance on pavement to get to Pierson Park Road. The trail was a bit like Pole Hill, but it wasn't as rocky or difficult.
It was easy to find the trailhead, and soon we were enjoying more scenery. Everything was really green, and we were surrounded by aspen trees. There were gorgeous meadows, too.
We soon got to a point where we were seeing piles of cut, dead pine trees all around us. Some of them looked like they had been killed by pine beetles, but it was impossible to tell for sure. A lot of trees had been cut down. We also found a few marked here and there. It was weird.
We started up the climb, and we were all commenting on how it kept going and going. It ended up being a really fun hill. It would have been tougher for a stock vehicle, though. It was a great time. We found two ATVs coming down once we got to the top, but there was room for them to pull to the side and let us by.
Once at the top, we opened the gate and went through, closing it behind us. Then the trail was surrounded by pine trees everywhere. They were all alive and well. It mellowed everyone out, and we were all pretty quiet as we worked our way through the trees. We stopped for a bit when it was flat, to get out and stretch our legs.
Soon the trail opened up a bit and we saw a few people camping here and there. We were quickly off the trail, and then we turned left to go run Johnny Park Road backwards. This is a cool trail, and it seemed like not too many people knew about it. It was a great escape into the mountains.
