Phantom Canyon
Phantom Canyon was the second trail of the day after Shelf Road, and it brought us back to Cripple Creek where we had started in the morning. The sun was still out, and the weather was warm. Phantom Canyon at the start was nice and dry but would not stay that way for very long.
We stopped at the first bathroom area for a short break. It was so nice and sunny out and we enjoyed taking in the sun. We did pass a few people that were out and going camping in the pullouts along Phantom Canyon. As we got closer to the old train tunnels, we ran into some traffic. The road started to be snow-covered in the shade and muddy in the sun.
We did not have any issues along the Phantom Canyon trail. It was just a nice day up in the mountains. This year, most of us did not have time to stop at the bakery. But one or two of the group did go to enjoy the special German baked goods. It was a great day.
