Mount Herman Road
We met at McDonald's in the town of Monument and aired down our tires there. Looking up at Mount Herman, we did not see too much snow. This was our first trip of the new year and we planned on playing in some snow, so we hoped to find some before the end of the day. The sun was out and it looked like it would be a very nice day, so there was a chance we'd only find dirt roads.
It is a short drive from McDonald's to Mount Herman Road and we were soon on the trail. The first quarter mile of the trail was just dirt without any snow on it at all, but soon it turned into a snow-packed road. The rest of the road was mostly snow-packed and slick at times, which kept things interesting.
We did not have any problems in two-wheel drive, though Tim got stuck once in some deep snow and he had to use four-wheel drive to get out. It packed his rims with snow, so it all worked out well.
We stopped at the Balanced Rock to figure out which trail to try next. It seemed natural to do Balanced Rock Road next, so we headed over to run our next trail.
