Middle St. Vrain
We had four new members join us in the morning, and it was late afternoon when we were at Camp Dick, discussing our plans for the rest of the day. Natalia was already airing up while we filled our water bottles and figured it out. Adam decided that he needed to be fresh for his first day back to work after time off, so he was heading home, too. Dennis and Tim were on vacation, visiting from South Carolina, and they were up for more trails. We were right next to Middle St. Vrain, so we decided to squeeze a couple more trails into the day.
It was getting chilly in the shadows of the trail at its start, as it's in the trees. We played around on the Guardian rocks, and no one had any issues. We had plenty of practice tackling the obstacles on the Ironclads and the T-33A Plane Crash, so we weren't expecting any issues.
We cruised along, and the rocks near the big, poser rock were wet and slick. Monica popped right up onto the poser rock without any slipping, though, and it was good to not have to work at it. She'd spent plenty of time on that rock, working at it and getting denied. It is always good to not have any issues there.
Tim and Dennis had their rental Jeeps with no lockers, so the wet rocks made that big rock too difficult. They got flexy as they worked their way around it.
We were following some big trucks up, and we heard them having troubles in the obstacle that dips down before you work your way up the rocks. We pulled to the side to get out, stretch our legs, and give them time to get through. Another Jeep came up to join us there for a while. The trucks finally made it through, and then they found a wide spot to pull over to let us all through, which was nice.
The trail is always fun, and we enjoyed the rocks. As we got farther in, the shadows gave way to sunshine and open spots on the trail where we could see the blue sky. It helped warm things up a bit, too.
When we got to the intersection with Coney Flats we decided to head up that trail rather than going to the end of Middle St. Vrain. We didn't want to completely run out of daylight. The other Jeep followed us up, and the fun continued.
