Middle St. Vrain
Our plans for our 4th of July BBQ included Middle St. Vrain and Coney Flats this year, but the trails were still closed and covered in snow at that time. We still wanted to do the trail so we rescheduled it for the end of the year. We had a great group of people and what promised to be fantastic weather for so late in October. We were really looking forward to the day.
We aired down at the trailhead and started in, and everyone enjoyed the Guardian Rocks. The weather was a bit chilly but it was sunny. The trail was dry, which was nice.
When we got to the big rock obstacle we wanted to get some pictures of everyone so we let a vehicle go by us. A few of us went through the obstacle and almost everyone was able to get up on the big rock for a nice, flexy pose. We let a couple more vehicles and ATVs by in between our playing.
The trail was definitely rockier and more eroded since we were up there last many years ago. It made it all more fun so no one was complaining. However, it would make it too difficult for vehicles that would have been fine not too long ago.
When we got to another big obstacle we took even more pictures. It was like a family reunion. Everyone really enjoyed the rocks.
We were planning on doing Coney Flats but we drove by the end of it to go see the end of Middle St. Vrain. Everyone got out and wandered around but it was pretty cold and it was getting windy. That forced us all back in our vehicles sooner than we probably would have bailed had it been nicer.
We got to the Coney Flats trail very quickly. Middle St. Vrain has really changed and the changes are for the better. It's a great trail!
